Earthquake Shakes Northern Communities at Lake Kinneret

Friday night earthquake on northern shore of Lake Kinneret

Residents in the northern city of Tiberias and other communities in the area ‘felt the earth move under their feet’ at around 6:40 pm Friday night when to a 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit the area around Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).

The epicenter of the temblor was located about four kilometers deep beneath the surface, just on the northern edge of the lake.

This was one of a cluster of 30 earthquakes that have struck the region since the beginning of September. However, Friday night’s quake was the strongest thus far.

No damage was caused.
