Mark Zuckerberg Promises Facebook Will Promote Covid Vaccinations
Facebook already banned antivaxer propaganda.
Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg have had their hands full this past year dealing with the myriad of responses to the Covid-19 crisis. The company has had to deal with all of the fake news which went around the internet and decide how to handle it when Facebook users post false information about the Coronavirus. Well now Mark Zuckerberg is taking an active hand in getting people vaccinated.
The plan is to get 50 million more people vaccinated for Covid-19. On his Facebook page Mark Zuckerberg wrote, “We’ve already connected over 2 billion people to authoritative Covid-19 information. Now that many countries are moving towards vaccinations for all adults, we’re working on tools to make it easier for everyone to get vaccinated as well.”
The Facebook founder explained that his company will soon launch a tool that will present users with information as to when and where they can get vaccinated. It will also provide a link to for scheduling an appointment. This tool will be found in the Covid Information Center. This will come up right in people’s News Feed. “We’ve already seen people use Facebook to find vaccination appointments, so this should enable millions more people to do the same,” said Zuckerberg.
Facebook will also bring its Covid Information Center to Instagram. Mark Zuckerberg also said that Facebook is working with health authorities and governments to expand their WhatsApp chatbots to help people register for vaccines. He said that more than 3 billion messages related to Covid have already been sent by governments, nonprofits and international organizations to citizens through official WhatsApp chatbots.
This move comes a month after Facebook banned any and all anti vaccination propaganda, and not just the ones related to the Covid vaccines. The banned claims include stating that COVID-19 is man-made or manufactured, that vaccines are not effective at preventing the disease which they are meant to protect against, that it’s safer to get the disease than to get the vaccine or that vaccines are toxic, dangerous or cause autism.
