Hertz Partners with Israel’s UVeye to Revolutionize Vehicle Maintenance with AI-Powered Inspection Technology

Business

Hertz, one of the world’s largest car rental companies, has announced a strategic partnership with Israeli AI startup UVeye to deploy automated vehicle inspection technology across its U.S. rental operations. This move marks a major shift in how Hertz maintains its fleet of over 500,000 vehicles worldwide.

Historically, vehicle assessments in the rental industry have depended on manual inspections, often conducted under inconsistent conditions. By integrating UVeye’s advanced AI-driven inspection systems, Hertz aims to boost the accuracy, efficiency, and frequency of its maintenance checks—ensuring vehicles are thoroughly inspected before, during, and after rentals.

The implementation of computer vision and machine learning tools from UVeye will enable Hertz to detect issues such as tire damage, undercarriage problems, and body scratches with greater speed and precision. This transformation is expected to lead to improved vehicle availability, faster turnaround times, and enhanced customer satisfaction through greater transparency and reliability.

The collaboration represents a major leap forward in automotive fleet management, leveraging AI technology to set new standards in the car rental industry.

Hertz Global Holdings Inc. is one of the world’s leading car rental and mobility solutions providers. Its subsidiaries and licensees operate the Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly vehicle rental brands with more than 11,000 rental locations in 160 countries around the globe, as well as the Hertz Car Sales brand, which offers a range of quality, competitively priced used cars for sale online and at locations across the US, and the Hertz 24/7 car sharing business in Europe.

Founded in 2016 by CEO Amir Hever and his brother Ohad, UVeye offers automated vehicle inspection systems based on advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies for both the automotive and homeland security industries. UVeye systems are increasing the speed and quality of inspection processes on assembly lines, as well as at new- and used-car dealerships, used-car auction houses and major vehicle fleets, as well as security checkpoints around the world.

UVeye utilizes sophisticated AI-powered camera systems and machine learning algorithms to perform real-time, automated inspections of vehicle exteriors (body, glass, tires) and undercarriages. This innovative technology significantly improves safety and vehicle uptime by identifying maintenance issues with unprecedented speed and precision. Their tire treadwear system employs high-resolution image capture and immediate AI analysis to determine when tires require replacement, reducing reliance on manual checks and ensuring proactive maintenance. By supplementing manual inspections with UVeye’s technology, customers can expect more efficient and transparent automated checks during vehicle handover.

“Hertz is setting a new standard for vehicle maintenance and fleet management in the rental industry, and we’re thrilled to partner with them,” said Amir Hever, CEO and Co-Founder of UVeye. “Our AI-driven inspection systems complement manual checks with consistent, data-backed assessments completed in seconds.”

Starting with Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which was the first to be equipped with UVeye systems, Hertz and UVeye are now rolling out installations across major U.S. airport locations, with deployment expected by the end of the year. This marks another step in Hertz’s broader strategy to harness cutting-edge technology that improves operational efficiency and elevates the customer experience. By transforming how vehicles are assessed and maintained, Hertz is building a more transparent, reliable, and tech-forward future for car rentals—starting with the basics.

UVeye’s AI-powered vehicle inspection systems, referred to as an “MRI for vehicles,” deliver speed and accuracy in identifying mechanical and cosmetic issues. The company’s suite of underbody scanners, tire analyzers, and 360-degree exterior detection systems has been installed at hundreds of dealerships, fleet sites, and auction lots globally. With key clients like Amazon and General Motors, and strategic initiatives in rental services and seaport inspections, UVeye is shaping the future of vehicle safety and efficiency.
