Cyber Tuition Payment Pilot Project Begins in Israel

Bar Ilan University has agreed to begin a pilot project to allow students to pay their tuition payments this year via their smartphones.

The university signed an agreement to allow the students to make their payments using Bank Hapoalim’s Bit app, one of the leading payment apps in Israel.

To date, students at Bar-Ilan University have paid tuition in various ways, including at the bank, the post office, and via the University website and call center. But beginning in 2020, they’ll be able to pay immediately, without having to enter payment voucher and credit card information.

A text message will provide the details of the payment due, and students will then be able to enter the Bit app and pay directly from their smartphones.

“This is a significant breakthrough that introduces a new form of payment into the world of higher education,” said University CEO Zohar Yinon. “The new service we’ve developed, together with Bit, will allow students to enjoy faster and more convenient payment, and the ability to track payment details. We will begin the pilot in advance of next year’s enrollment, expanding the variety of services we currently offer our students.”

Bar-Ilan University students study for academic degrees at the University’s eight Faculties of Law, Engineering, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Exact Sciences, Jewish Studies, Humanities, and Medicine.
