Facebook is losing the younger generation to competitors like TikTok. This is according to a study conducted by the world-renowned Pew Research Center.

This news comes as little surprise. The younger generations have always had little patience. They are the ones that drive new fashion trends and fads. They have a natural dislike of anything that came before they reached their teen years and a maniacal need for things to have been made solely for them.
So it is no wonder that after more than a decade as the king of all social media, Facebook is now losing market share to its competitors.
Meta, the Facebook parent company, has already been working to advance more videos on its Instagram social media service. This is because TikTok keeps on getting more and more popular. People simply prefer active videos to passive images.
So, what did the Pew Research study have to say about Facebook exactly?
Its survey of American teenagers ages 13 to 17 found that TikTok has “rocketed” in popularity since its North American debut several years ago and now is a “top social media platform for teens” among the platforms covered in its survey.
The survey found that about 67% of American teens say they use TikTok at least sometimes, and 16% of all teens say that they use it almost constantly. Meanwhile, the share of teens who say they use Facebook, a dominant social media platform among teens in the Center’s 2014-15 survey, has plummeted from 71% then to 32% today.
But YouTube, which is owned by Google, beat them both with 95% of teens saying that they use it. 19% of teens say they use YouTube almost constantly.
“There are some notable demographic differences in teens’ social media choices,” said Pew. “For example, teen boys are more likely than teen girls to say they use YouTube, Twitch and Reddit, whereas teen girls are more likely than teen boys to use TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat. In addition, higher shares of Black and Hispanic teens report using TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp compared with White teens.”
Not surprisingly, Pew research found that 97% of teens say they use the internet daily, with older teens are more likely to be online almost constantly.
