Listory, a new startup which just launched an app that lets people get the information that they actually want while avoiding clickbait, brought in $4 million. The company which calls its product “your go-to app for content that matters,” raised the funds from Viola Ventures, Globis Capital and Rhodium.

Listory was founded in March 2020 by Yaniv Gilad and Yaron Galai after completing a management buyout from Outbrain.

Everybody is tired of all of the junk which comes up on your browser whenever you search for real information. Let’s say that you want to plan a trip to Israel. How do you avoid getting all sorts of political information and news stories come up in your feed which are not relevant to your search? It’s not just all of those ads that drive you crazy. It’s the clickbait for sites offering information or products which at best have only a passing connection to making a trip to Israel.

So what exactly does Listory offer?

Listory has iOS, Android and web applications that it promises users will offer them the most relevant content in all forms, be it articles, videos or podcasts. The company’s refinery engine extracts the most recommended stories specifically for you, from hand-picked authoritative newsletters and curators in each field. The stories are then further refined by finding those that were recommended by the people you follow and the amount of time spent reading them.

It does not use algorithms or just give you a news feed based on what your friends are posting.

The app is also diet friendly as it offers users specified “superfood” content, chosen just for them, rather than an endless “empty calorie” feed.

The app offers a list of stories that were refined especially to your specifications. You can like, save or list your favorite stories to one of your reading lists. You can follow others to receive content from experts in your field. Listory allows you to create new lists, share them with others or keep them private.

Save time and stay on track in your pursuit of knowledge by following the reads of the leading experts and influencers in the topics you’re interested in.

Listory monitors more than 1000 newsletters, curated by experts and thought leaders in areas such as product, engineering, design, startup, current news, politics, and more. It extracts and puts in front of you only those stories that were mentioned and recommended by many experts.

Listory’s CEO Yaniv Gilad said: “We’re excited and thankful for the investor support and user adoption and we’re eager to keep refining our content. That’s why we invite our users to challenge us, on a daily basis, to show that we truly believe in the content we present them with. Through this challenge, we’ll get to know our users even better, keep improving our platform, and most importantly, provide the best content experience for everyone.”

Yaron Galai, Outbrain Founder & CEO and Listory’s Chairman said: “Listory is measuring your delight and appreciation rather than attention and infinite scrolling. Unlike many other social feeds, Listory is an opinionated, mission driven app that is shaping new content consumption habits while helping you get smarter and happier.”
