NJ Pawn Shop Owner Linked to Jersey City Shooters, Had Arsenal in Shop

A New Jersey man has been arrested after a direct connection has been established to two shooters who last week killed a top detective on the city’s force and three civilians

for illegal possession of a weapon after his phone number and the address to the pawn shop he owns were found scrawled on a piece of paper in the right back pants pocket of the male terrorist who attacked the kosher supermarket in Jersey City last week.

Ahmed A-Hady, 35, of Keyport, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, the US Attorney’s office said late Saturday. A-Hady purchased two handguns in 2007 before his 2012 on felony charges that caused him to be ineligible to own a firearm.

When law enforcement officers went to check out the pawnshop, they discovered a small arsenal.

Between the pawnshop and A-Hady’s home, investigators found 10 firearms – six rifles, three handguns and a shotgun – including three AR-15-style assault rifles, along with more than 400 rounds of ammunition, including a large number of hollow point bullets, US Attorney Craig Carpenito said late Saturday.

A-Hady is expected to appear Monday before US Magistrate Judge Joseph A. Dickson in Newark Federal Court.

The FBI also seized a van Saturday believed to be the one in which the two shooters were living prior to their attack on the kosher supermarket.

The 2001 Ford van was discovered in Orange, New Jersey, according to the New York Post, which said the Essex County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad assisted with the seizure. The vehicle had New Jersey plates and is believed to have been previously owned by 47-year-old gunman David Anderson, a spokesperson for the Essex County Sheriff’s Office said.
