From the Yes website:

The compelling story of “Shtisel” provides an intimate portrait of a Haredi family living in an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Jerusalem as its members reckon with love, loss and the latency of daily life.

Akiva, a young ultra-orthodox (Haredi) bachelor, struggles finding fulfillment as a Rabbi and searching for love within the strict rules of religious observance. Akiva’s budding desire to explore his artistic talent and pursue a relationship with a young widow – and mother of one of his students – is at direct odds with the traditional path he is expected to follow. Akiva lives together with his widowed father, Shulem, whose guidance tends to clash with Akiva’s internal longings. This gentle drama allows a window into the world of an ultra –orthodox Jewish community in Jerusalem while introducing audiences to the story of the multigenerational Shtisel family as they deal with grief, companionship and every day struggles.
