Almost half of the Israelis live in only 16 cities, and Jerusalem is the largest city in the country, a Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) report on the issue shows.
The CBS report, released on Monday, showed that there are 1,218 localities, of which 1,090 are Jewish, 137 are non-Jewish, and nine are mixed localities that are counted both as Jewish and non-Jewish localities.

263 of the towns were categorized as urban localities, and 955 were listed as rural localities.
Jerusalem is the largest city with 919,438 residents.
The city of Ariel, the largest in Samaria, passed the benchmark of 20,000 residents in the past year.
The data also showed that there are 16 cities in the country that have more than 100,000 residents, constituting 44% of the citizens of the State of Israel. 10 of these cities are located in the Tel Aviv area.
Conversely, 734 of the 1,218 localities, some 60%, have less than 1,000 residents, and nine localities have less than 100 residents.
