Ron Keren, brother of terror victim Danny Haran who was murdered by Samir Kuntar in a 1979 terrorist attack, has called on the Attorney General to disqualify Israeli-Arab Member of Knesset (MK) Heba Yazbak from running in the upcoming elections for the 23rd Knesset over her support for Kuntar.

In May 2015, Yazbak, of the Arab-majority Joint List, shared a photo of Kunter and praised him as a “martyred warrior” who died while waging Jihad.

Kuntar participated in the 1979 nighttime attack in Nahariya in which he murdered a policeman and then abducted Danny Haran and his daughter Einat and later murdered them both on the beach. Einat’s sister Yael suffocated to death while attempting to hide from Kuntar and the other three terrorists.

The High Court of Justice recently ruled that praising Kuntar was “inconceivable” and “horrific,” but yet confirmed her candidacy for technical reasons.

Keren on Thursday petitioned Attorney General Avicahi Mendelblit through the Be’Tsalmo human rights organization and has demanded that she be disqualified from running in the March elections.

“It is incredible that Michael Ben Ari was disqualified for much lesser things and she [Yazbak] will not be disqualified,” Be’Tsalmo stated, relating to former MK Ben-Ari who was banned in March 2019 from running for the Knesset after being accused of Anti-Arab racism.

Be’Tslamo expressed confidence that the attorney general will accept their position and immediately disqualify Yazbak and order a criminal investigation into her apparent support of terrorism.

Be’Rsalmo warned that if Mendelblit rejects their petition it will appear to Israelis as a discriminatory policy in which “what is forbidden to Jews is allowed to Arabs, a feeling that many Israeli citizens have felt for many years.”
