30 percent of CNBC 50 Disruptor Tech Firms Have Jewish Or Israelis Founders

This year CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list of private companies “whose breakthroughs are influencing business and market competition at an accelerated pace,” 15 (30%) have Jewish or Israelis founders.

The TV Chanel said on its website “The startups making the 2020 Disruptor list are at the epicenter of a world-changing in previously unimaginable ways, turning ideas in cybersecurity, education, health IT, logistics/delivery, fintech, and agriculture into a new wave of billion-dollar businesses.”

These companies are “poised to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic with tech platforms that have the power to dominate,” CNBC said.

According to CNBC of the 50 companies selected, 36 are already Unicorns, having reached or passed the $1 billion valuation mark. 37 of the companies have hired new employees since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, and 19 have managed to pivot their products or launched new ones to meet the challenges created by the pandemic.

3. Indigo Agriculture – Co-founded by David Perry. The Boston-based company works with plant microbes, aiming to improve yields of cotton, wheat, corn, soybeans, and rice.  

4. Coursera – co-founder by an Israeli-American prof. Daphne Koller. the company business is in the field of higher education, online learning using AI, and cloud computing.

6. Tempus – founder Eric Lefkofsky. A technology company that has built the world’s largest accessible library of clinical and molecular data. Tempus brought a test to market in April and launched a research project examining 50,000 Covid-19 positive patients to find the most effective treatments and other insights.

9. Neteera Technologies – founded by Isaac Litman. The firm has developed remote sensing technology that manages to feel tiny movements on the surface of the skin in order to monitor vital signs and other physical indicators such as stress, fatigue, and pain, as well as symptoms of coronavirus.

17. Lemonade – founded by Daniel Schreiber and Shai Wininger. An insurance technology firm that recently filed a Nasdaq IPO. The firm has created a new business model for insurance, powered by artificial intelligence, to eliminate conflicts of interest between insurers and the insured, with a bot rather than an agent guiding customers applying for insurance.

32. Butterfly Network – co-founded by Jonathan M. Rothberg. The digital health company offers a whole body ultrasound medical imaging universally accessible and affordable.

The telemedicine startup has created an artificial intelligence-based app for smartphones that can provide users with an immediate diagnosis for symptoms they are experiencing. 36. Databricks– co-founded among others by Scott Shenker, Andy Konwinski, and Matei Zaharia, the creators of Apache Spark currently a professor at Stanford University. The platform helps customers to unify their analytics across the business, data science, and data engineering.
