The Etihad Airways flight made history.
United Arab Emirates airline Etihad Airways made history on Wednesday with a flight that crossed through Israeli airspace. This marked the first time ever that a plane from the UAE did so.
An Etihad Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner made the flight, on its return to Abu Dhabi from Milan. Being able to cross through Israel saves such flights about 90 minutes of flight time.
The flight was made possible as part of a new aviation agreement between Jordan and Israel which allows for such international flights to cross through the two nations’ air space.
This comes just a month after Etihad Airways announced that it would offer flights out of Tel Aviv. The Abu Dahbi based airline will be represented in Israel by Tal Aviation.

Just a few hours flight from Tel Aviv, the airline will offer travelers continuing flights to all over the Far East. Etihad offers flights to Thailand, The Maldives, Australia, India, The Philippines, Japan and other countries.
An Israeli air traffic controller was recorded greeting the flight saying, “Captain, we are thrilled and honored to welcome you to overfly Israel. This is a historic moment we have all been waiting for. We hope it will inspire the whole region and mark the beginning of a new era, inshallah.”
