The news comes after Aleph Farms already made its meat on the International Space Station.
Israeli meat alternative company Aleph Farms has a new initiative to eventually produce its products on Mars. The program is called Aleph Zero and is intended to produce non-GMO cells anywhere and in any environment.
In this way the production of its meat alternative will not be affected by the environment nor in any way have an impact on Earth’s environment.
To achieve its goal, Aleph Farms has entered into a strategic partnerships with technology companies and space agencies for long term collaborative research and development contracts.
Founded in 2017 and based in Rehovot, Israel, Aleph Farms cultivates steaks directly from the cells of a living animal. It has a platform for the cultivation of whole beef steaks.
Aleph Farms boasts that its cell-grown meat is close to conventional meat thanks to a proprietary 3D platform that uses various types of cells to form complex tissue, ensuring an end product that resembles the taste, texture, and structure of farmed meat.
The technology was developed with Professor Shulamit Levenberg at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology.

The core mission of the new initiative is centered on introducing new capabilities for locally producing fresh, quality meat even in the most harsh and remote extraterrestrial environments, such as space.
In a time when environmentalists point out the hidden costs of worldwide meat consumption, companies like Meat-Tech are finding solutions. The expansion in beef and poultry production has had the unintended consequence of adding to world pollution.
The animals leave behind a great deal of waste. They also produce greenhouse gases. And there is also the problem of animal abuse. Animal rights activists point out that much of the world’s beef, poultry, and eggs are produced today in industrial facilities where the animals are mistreated.
Traditional vegetarian alternatives are not so healthy or environmentally friendly themselves. Their contents are difficult to farm and the frozen foods have all manner of additives and artificial ingredients.
This new type of “fake” meat harms no animals. And it is also great for Jews who keep kosher which means no mixing of any dairy with meat and poultry. This machine-made meat is not considered to be real meat for the purpose of kashrut and as such may be mixed with dairy.

Didier Toubia, the company’s CEO, co-founded Aleph Farms with The Kitchen Foodtech Hub of Strauss Group and with Professor Shulamit Levenberg of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
“Aleph Zero represents the mathematical symbol of the smallest infinite number, and how Aleph Farms brings space infinity closer by supporting deep-space exploration and colonization of new planets. The term also represents the company’s vision for producing meat with near-zero natural resources,” said Toubia.
