Honduran Government Declares Hezbollah a Terrorist Organization

The Honduran government has formally declared the Iranian proxy group Hezbollah a terrorist organization, Reuters reported Monday.

“We declare Hezbollah a terrorist organization and will include it in the registry of persons and institutions linked to acts of terrorism and its financing,” said Luis Suazo, Honduras’ deputy security minister.

The move follows an announcement last week by Guatemala’s new president, Alejandro Giammattei, who announced his nation will also designate the Iranian-backed Lebanese group to be a terrorist organization. In addition, Giammattei said he would keep his country’s embassy in the Israeli capital.

UK Finance Ministry Freezes Hezbollah Assets

The United Kingdom froze Hezbollah assets last week after the British government classified the entire group as a terrorist entity last year. This follows London’s earlier classification of the entire Hezbollah organization as a terrorist group.

The United States placed Hezbollah on its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) on October 8, 1997.
