Workers prepare ballot boxes for the Israeli elections, March 25, 2019.

The bill for dissolution of the 22nd Knesset was placed on the table of the Israeli parliament on Tuesday afternoon, barely a day before the legislative body is officially compelled by law to disband.

Incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his opponent and leader of the Blue and White faction, MK Benny Gantz, and several Israeli lawmakers have all attempted to form a coalition or unity government. All have failed.

The bill was tabled jointly by the negotiating teams from the Likud party and the Blue and White faction with the intention of setting the date of an unprecedented third round of general elections on Monday, March 2, 2020.
