Google Introduces New Hum To Search Feature
Hum to Search will let you sing a tune to search for it.
Google has a new app called Hum To Search. With this app you can just hum a tune to find out what the song’s name is.
The app is intended to solve the problem with earworms.
So what is an earworm? It happens to all of us. It’s when you get that tune stuck in your head and you can’t get rid of it.
It is annoying enough when you know the song. But when you can’t even remember the song’s name then it is really annoying.
How do you look it up on line? Do you just type into your search a written humming like, “what song goes dah, dah, dah, dee, dee, dee?”
No, that won’t work. Sorry.
Aps like Shazam will find the name of a song for you. It will also tell you who sang it, what album it was on and give you a link to where you can buy it. But this only works while the music is playing. Once it stops you have lost your chance.
So what is Google now offering us?
Well if you don’t have the song available to actually play but you can hum a few bars of it you will be able to search for it. Instead of typing “dah, dah dee,” just hum “dah, dah, dee.” Google will then find the song for you.

The new service became available on Thursday.
Google said in a blog post that people can now, “whistle or sing a melody to Google to solve your earworm. On your mobile device, open the latest version of the Google app or find your Google Search widget, tap the mic icon and say “what’s this song?”
You can also click the “Search a song” button. Then start humming for 10-15 seconds.
Or you can use Google Assistant. You just need to Say “Google, what’s this song?” and then hum the tune. This feature is currently available in English on iOS, and in more than 20 languages on Android.
