Israel Delivers First Iron Dome Missile Defense Battery To US Military

Israel is now providing the U.S. military with advanced defense systems. Wow!

An Iron Dome Battery

The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) in the Directorate of Defense R&D of the Ministry of Defense has delivered to the US Army the first Multi-Mission Radars (MMR) manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) unit ELTA Systems. This is part of the famed Iron Dome system.

Israel’s MMR is a mobile S-Band Multi-Mission Radar (MMR) family featuring an advanced 3D Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) for Air Defense (AD) and Artillery Weapon Location (WLR) missions.

Israel is now providing the U.S. military with advanced defense systems. Wow!

We have been hearing about the Iron Dome systems for years. It was used to shoot down missiles launched by Hezbollah against Israel during the Lebanon War in 2006. And it is used regularly to defend Israel from shorter range missiles launched by Hamas out of Gaza.

The Americans also need to be worried about shorter range missiles used by terrorist groups and armies alike. But turning to Israel for the new tech, now that’s a really big deal.

IAI VP and ELTA CEO Yoav Tourgeman said, “The MMR radar is operational in Israel and other countries. We are proud to supply our most advanced systems to our allies, the US Army. The MMR radar addresses a broad range of needs, by locating and tracking incoming rockets and artillery shells, and by providing a comprehensive aerial situation assessment. The MMR radar will maintain our allies’ military edge. The demand for mobile, combat-proven MMR systems is on the rise.”

Moshe Patel, the head of Israel’s Missile Defense Organization, told Defense News about what it is like to collaborate with the U.S. On the Arrow flight tests which were conducted in Alaska he said, “It didn’t happen in one day. It took us some time to build our interoperability capability and to be able to receive classified information and the right data in order to do this kind of cooperation, and we get a lot from that. We get a lot.”
