Stephen B. Jacobs Group Designed New Affordable Housing Building In Downtown New Rochelle

That area of New Rochelle has been in renewal for some time.

A new 219 unit affordable housing complex is coming to New Rochelle. The Stephen B. Jacobs Group designed the all residential tower at 11 Garden Street, NY Yimby reports.

The project is located right at the epicenter of New Rochelle’s downtown renewal area. The site is just off the city’s main artery, North Ave, right at where it crosses over the New England Thruway. That area has been overhauled in the past twenty years. Garden Street is just blocks away from the New Roc City complex where there is a multiplex movie theatre, a number of stores like a Barnes and Noble, and some restaurants. There is also a hotel and a Stop and Shop supermarket in the complex.

If you drive on the Thruway near New Rochelle, you can see all of the new high rise apartment building which have risen there in recent years. The new complex will also be right near the New Rochelle Public Library and its train station, so residents will have an easy commute either down to New York City or up towards Connecticut.

New Rochelle Development revealed that 11 Garden Street will be 19 stories high, have 219 rentals with 77 units reserved for victims of domestic violence. The co-developer is New Destiny House Corporation. All the units will be affordable.

There will also be a 172 space parking garage, a private playground for residents, and a new public plaza at the corner of Garden Street and North Avenue.

“The building is one of the most recent mixed-income developments on the rise in New Rochelle. Westchester Square, located less than a mile away, is an expanding mixed-use complex that will eventually introduce hundreds of mixed-income residential units, a vibrant retail corridor, new office area, and expanded public space,” explains Yimby.

There is no word yet on groundbreaking for the new project or when they expect it to be completed.
