The UN publishes a “blacklist” of 112 Firms working at Israeli settlements

94 companies based in Israel and 18 in six other countries have been blacklisted for their ties to Israeli settlements in the West Bank. See the full list here.

Despite the heavy Israeli and American pressure, the UN Human Rights Council released Wednesday the companies and businesses operating in Israel across the Green Line – including East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

According to information published three years ago the list will include some of the largest companies in Israel, including Airbnb, Bank Hapoalim, Leumi Bank, Bezeq, Elbit, Coca-Cola, Africa-Israel, IDB, Egged, Sources, and Netafim.

“There were 112 businesses with evidentiary infrastructure that have ties to settlements. 94 of them are located in Israel, 18 in six other countries,” wrote UN Human Rights Commissioner Michel Chelette. From now on, the list will be published on the UN official website.

“The long-awaited release of the UN settlement business database should put all companies on notice: to do business with illegal settlements is to aid in the commission of war crimes,” Bruno Stagno, Deputy Executive Director for Advocacy at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. “The database marks critical progress in the global effort to ensure businesses end complicity in rights abuse and respect international law. The UN’s top rights body should ensure that the database is regularly updated to assist companies in complying with their international legal obligations,”

Foreign Minister Israel Katz responded to the move: “The UN announcement is a shameful surrender to the pressures of countries and organizations that want to hurt Israel, even though most countries in the world have refused to join this political pressure campaign.” Katz added: “The State of Israel will not accept discriminatory and anti-Israeli policies, and we will work in all ways to prevent such decisions from being implemented.”
